Places to Explore

Nagymaros is one of the most charming towns in the Danube Bend, situated on the left bank of the Danube at the foot of the Börzsöny Mountains, directly opposite Visegrád. One of its greatest attractions is its breathtaking panorama: from almost anywhere in town, visitors can enjoy views of the Visegrád Citadel and the winding Danube, a landscape that defines the town’s atmosphere throughout the year. The area is also an excellent starting point for hiking, with trails leading to Hegyes-tető, the Julianus Lookout Tower, and the scenic routes of both the Börzsöny Mountains and the Visegrád Hills. The riverside promenade, harbour, and ferry crossings offer a peaceful waterfront experience where nature and a slower pace of life take centre stage.

Beyond its natural beauty, Nagymaros is a vibrant community with a distinctly local character, where markets, community gatherings, and riverside encounters are part of everyday life. In addition to outdoor experiences, visitors can discover several cultural and religious landmarks, including churches, memorial sites, and small exhibition spaces that reveal the town’s rich history and heritage.
