  • Poland – Bigos, or Hunter's Stew

The national dish of the Poles: meats, sausage, fresh and sour cabbage, and wild forest mushrooms slowly and peacefully braised together. A dish so hearty that afterwards a person is ready either to march into battle or to lie down for a rest beneath a shady tree.

Cheese marinated in oil with garlic, chili, and spices. In short: the ermine that arrives at the table not as a fur coat, but in a far more useful form.

  • Slovakia – Cesnaková polievka, that is, garlic soup

An intense garlic soup with grated cheese and cubes of ham. After eating it, vampires, the common cold, and most likely anyone standing nearby as well will all keep a respectful distance.
