Romantic programmes for couples at Lake Balaton—together at the lake’s most beautiful spots

Balaton

There is nothing more romantic than taking in the Lake Balaton panorama while sipping a glass of wine. Experience unforgettable moments at sunset, as the setting sun’s rays shimmer on the water and the ‘golden path’ provides an idyllic backdrop for your time together.

Living a romantic moment at Lake Balaton is remarkably simple—strolling along the shore, admiring the panorama or sitting on a wine terrace, you need nothing else to connect with each other. Remember to take your time and let the wonders unfold around you. We’ve gathered a few tips on where to head around Lake Balaton if you’re looking for truly romantic spots.

The legendary Rózsakő in Badacsony

Tucked above the Kisfaludy House in Badacsony, the Rózsakő is associated with a deeply romantic love legend. According to the legend, lovers who sit on the rock with their backs to Lake Balaton and hold each other’s hands will be married within a year. Another version says that it is enough for the lovestruck girl to sit on the rock and think intensely of her partner. Nothing is guaranteed, but you certainly won’t be disappointed if you hike to the Rózsakő—not least because of the view. Numerous hiking trails start from the area, leading to the top of Badacsony, where stunning views await. One of these trails leads you up through Bujdosók lépcsője (Stairs of the Exiled), which has 464 steps. At the end of the day, don’t forget to visit one of the wine cellars in Badacsony!

Folly Arboretum, Winery and Restaurant

Holding hands, you can take long walks along the quiet paths of the Folly Arboretum in Badacsonyörs, where the tranquillity of nature quietly moves into your heart. As you walk among the shady trees, glimpses of the lake’s panorama appear at every turn, with hidden benches and peaceful spots inviting you to pause along the way. Finally, you can enjoy a delicious dish and a glass of wine on the restaurant’s terrace.

Intimate moments on the southern shore

The Heart of Balaton statue in Zamárdi is made of red sandstone—but that’s not the only reason why it’s a perfect date spot. Stroll along the promenade and take a few great photos of each other! On the Magaspart in Balatonvilágos, look for the white-painted Bridge of Sighs, whose railing is adorned with countless love locks. Place one of your own on it too, so that your love lasts forever! The huge trees in the parks and along the promenades of Balatonföldvár have been holding deep conversations for decades. You can safely entrust them with your secrets too.

St. Michael’s Hill and chapel

St. Michael’s Hill and the chapel atop it in Vonyarcvashegy are undoubtedly among Hungary’s most romantic locations. According to legend, Hungary’s only fishermen’s chapel was built in the 18th century in memory of the fishermen who survived a devastating storm on Lake Balaton. From the surrounding benches, there is a wonderful view of the opposite shore and the nearby buttes. Bring a picnic basket, a blanket and some lemonade, and enjoy quiet, romantic moments together.

End a leisurely day with a delicious dinner or a great wine at one of the wineries around the lake. And if you prefer to be close to the water, take a sightseeing cruise, paddle out on a SUP, or enjoy a sunset tour aboard a sailing boat.
