FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) has been staging the World Championships since 1973, showcasing the very best of the world’s swimming, open water and artistic swimming, diving, and water polo.
Thanks to its host of global superstars, aquatics became the top Olympic sport in 2021, and the FINA World Championships are currently among the top sporting spectacles around the world. Billions watch the events on TV, with hundreds of millions more following the action on social media; an incredible journey to become such a global showcase from the championship’s relatively humble beginnings back in the 70s.
In addition to Budapest, events will also be hosted by the cities of Debrecen, Sopron, and Szeged, including the water polo matches.
