52nd International Eucharistic Congress

After eighty years, Hungary is once again playing host to the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC). Taking place between the 5th and the 12th of September 2021, the Congress is a series of events to satisfy the spitirual and cultural needs of all age groups.

At the centre of this Catholic world event stands Jesus Christ, present in the form of bread and wine. This year, our country is given a unique opportunity to showcase Hungarian culture, tradition and historic heritage, as well as the thousand-year-old presence of Christianity here in the Carpathian Basin.

The week-long event will feature open-air Holy Masses, concerts, exhibitions, presentations, testimonies, historical city tours, family activities, and a film festival, with the historic buildings and vibrant cultural scene of Budapest providing an ideal backdrop, along with its picturesque location, delicious food, and famous hospitality.

Pope Francis celebrates the Closing Mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress to be held at Heroes’ Square, Budapest on 12 September at 11:30.
