Bartók World Competition 2021

The Liszt Academy is set to hold the first rounds of the Bartók World Competition for 2021 between the 25th and 31st of October. The event is open to string quartets and is planned to take place in front of a live audience.

Launched in 2017, the international event is organised in a six-year cycle, with the odd-numbered years seeing the instrumentalist competitions (sequentially: violinists, pianists then string quartets), while the even-numbered years are reserved for composers, with pieces written for the instrument of the following year.

This year, the prestigious international jury will be composed of: Kossuth Prize-winning violinists Barnabás Kelemen and János Rolla; Széchenyi Prize Laureate Tibor Tallián; violinist Mikhail Kopelman; Professor and Vice-Rector of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, violinst Johannes Meissl; lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts, violinist Ami Oike; as well as violinist and violist Barry Shiffman. The Gala Concert will be held at the Liszt Academy on 31st October 2021.

Date: 25th-31st October 2021

Venue: Liszt Academy, 1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.
