Champions League in Hungary – Budapest celebrates football

BudapestGreater Budapest

In 2026, Budapest will make history: for the first time, Hungary will host the UEFA Champions League final, an event that will bring not only the Puskás Aréna to life but the whole city too. This day will be about more than just a football match. It will be an international celebration of football, and it is well worth starting to plan your trip now.

Champions League Final – A festival at the Puskás Aréna and across the city

On 30 May, the Puskás Aréna will stage the most prestigious game in European club football, the pinnacle of the 2025–26 season and the first occasion on which the Champions League final has been held in Budapest. UEFA’s decision is no coincidence: the city and the country have proved their ability to host major sporting events – including the 2023 Europa League final – demonstrating that they are fully prepared for an event of this scale.

The Champions League final will not be confined to the stadium. Budapest’s streets, squares and green spaces will together host the official UEFA Champions Festival between 28 and 31 May 2026. At the heart of the festivities will be one of the city’s most iconic spaces, Heroes’ Square in the City Park, where you too can enjoy the atmosphere of football, free of charge.

Heroes’ Square fan zone and multi-day events

The fan zone at Heroes’ Square will offer photo opportunities, live screenings and a variety of accompanying events over the four days, attracting hundreds of international supporters, families and football enthusiasts.

A legends match will also be played on Friday 29 May, the day before the final. The Ultimate Champions Legends Tournament will bring former global stars to the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna – including Luís Figo, Kaká, Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Andrés Iniesta – making it an excellent addition to a long weekend in the city.

The city authorities and organisers are working together to ensure safety and smooth transport. You will also have the opportunity to take part as volunteers, becoming part of the atmosphere and organisation of the Champions League final.

A milestone for Budapest’s sporting and tourism life: the Champions League final marks a milestone for Budapest, drawing not only locals but visitors from across Europe and around the world, many of whom will wish to explore the wonderful city on the Danube, its historic centre, striking architecture and vibrant cultural life, not to mention the match itself. The Champions League final will be more than just a game. It will bring the whole experience to life.
