A family walk in the city centre

Debrecen is well worth even just a weekend visit, with all the city centre attractions within walking distance of each other. So you can easily get to all sights from the Grand Hotel Aranybika to the Reformed Great Church and the Magda Szabó and Kossuth statues on the main square in a couple of hours. Do not miss Mihály Munkácsy’s Christ Trilogy at the Déri Museum, the contemporary exhibitions at MODEM, or a good theatre play performance at the Vojtina Puppet Theatre.

 

Tired from all the activities? Then you should hop on tram No. 1, which runs past the Small Reformed Church in Debrecen, the Old Town Hall, the Reformed Great Church, the Water Tower and the University.

Take the little ones to Nagyerdő, the City Park of Debrecen, where you can choose from a selection of wonderful family activities, discover the Sziget-kék four-season theme park, the zoo and the amusement park under the shady trees of Nagyerdő. You’ll also have the chance to relax and recharge your batteries on the beach and in the adventure and thermal baths. For older visitors, there’s a whole range of great gastronomic events and festivals on offer throughout the city, but you can also take a ride on the country’s oldest narrow-gauge railway, “Zsuzsi”, or have fun all day at Kerekerdő Adventure Park.

It’s easy to get here, but hard to leave

You can come to Debrecen by public transport, but also by car or even by plane, the only thing that will be difficult will be leaving, because you will be so enchanted by this vibrant metropolitan city full of events and attractions, yet a friendly small town at heart.
