Water, land and people in harmony

Staying on a holiday boat for a week and enjoying the scenery from the water with friends and family is an experience you will always remember. This has been possible in Hungary since 2020.

This kind of holiday has been extremely popular in Western Europe for almost fifty years, and holiday boats have also been available in Hungary for the past four years. You do not need a license. You just have to be 21 years old.  You can learn to handle these safe, slow-moving motor boats in two or three hours. They are not only means of transport but also serve as comfortable, air-conditioned or heated accommodation for the captain and his crew from early spring to late autumn.

Sunset over the lake every night

Holiday boaters usually spend four to five hours a day on their boats, mooring here and there, exploring the area by bike, canoe or SUP, or going to the beach or a spa. But fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and discovering great restaurants and wineries is also recommended. When you return to the boat in the evening, you can enjoy the sunset glistening on the water. MAHART staff can give you a map and tips about things to do. Did you know that both areas of Hungary where you can go holiday boating, Tokaj and Lake Tisza, are on UNESCO’s World Heritage List? You can cover both areas in a week.

Floating apartments

MAHART offers three types of boats for rent on the nyaralohajozas.hu website, depending on how many people will be staying on them.

The Quattro boat can accommodate a maximum of 4+2 people. The two cabins are located in the bow, with a separable double bed, storage cabinets and wardrobes. The windows are fitted with mosquito nets. The cabins also have separate bathrooms with showers and toilets. The glass-enclosed saloon on the lower deck is a comfortable living space. Up to six people can sit around the dining table. At night, this part can also be converted into a double bed, which is great for small children. The luxury home on the water has a kitchen equipped with a fridge, a freezer, a gas stove, a mobile barbeque, cooking pots, glasses, plates, cutlery and a sink.

One wheel is located on top of the boat, and the other in the saloon. Steering is more enjoyable from the upper deck, where the landscape unfolds in front of you, but you can also steer from the saloon if the crew is gathered there. The saloon's glass door opens onto the rear deck, where four people can sit around the outdoor table under the awning.

The Sixto holiday boat is an ideal choice for a family with two children if the grandparents also come with them because it can accommodate 6+2 people. The cabin in the bow of the boat is actually a large bedroom with a full-size double bed. This cabin also has a separate bathroom and toilet. The other two smaller cabins are also equipped with double beds and a shared bathroom.

Octo is the biggest boat, accommodating 8+2 people. Two of its four cabins are located in the bow of the boat, and two on the sides. This boat also has two bathrooms.

You can find pictures and videos about all this on the website and the Facebook page of the holiday boats.
