Day 1

Eger Castle

Everybody has seen or at least read about Eger Castle, but it will undoubtedly leave you in awe after each visit. Standing by the castle wall, you can enjoy a perfect 360° panoramic view of the city, making it a must-try spot for taking photos. The alleys leading up to the castle also evoke a medieval atmosphere.

Minaret

If you managed to escape the temptation of the terraces of the Kis-Dobó tér, head to the most Eastern minaret of the former Ottoman Empire and its spiral staircase of 97 steps. If you keep your eyes open, you may even stumble on the Ottoman-styled café called Egri Pasa Sátra.

Day 2

Sightseeing in Eger on the train on wheels

You can choose the comfortable way to get to Szépasszonyvölgy by opting for Dottika, the open-air train on wheels with space for 36 people, transporting you from Eger city centre, from the corner of the Érsekkert park, if you don’t feel like walking or driving. It is not a long distance to walk, but by riding Dottika you have the chance to have a pleasant look around on the way.

Bath and the salt hills in Egerszalók

The nearest you can bump into similar travertine formations is in Pamukkale, Turkey or in the Yellowstone National Park in the US. Previously this was the scene of secret night baths. Now, however a prestigious hotel providing high-quality services completes this unique experience.

Day 3

Diósgyőr Castle

One of the most fascinating castles of Hungary is situated 8 kilometres from Miskolc city centre, surrounded by the Bükk Mountains. It is characterised by exhibitions, knights’ tournaments, guided tours in costume, workshops and firearms exhibitions and is surrounded by historical authenticity and atmosphere. If you request it, you will be welcomed by a cannon shot on arrival

Avalon Resort & Spa

Spa services combined with adrenaline. At the Avalon Resort & Spa in Miskolctapolca, you can easily switch between active experiences and delightful relaxation, depending on your current mood. You also have a child-friendly spa, electric go-kart track and playground at your disposal, depending on what you want to do at that moment.

During your visit

Wine

Egri Csillag is a characteristic white wine from the Eger region. Its history dates back to Ottoman times. The lights of the watchmen’s booths on the vineyard hillside looked like stars from the city. This is reflected in the name of the wine, as the Hungarian word Csillag means star. These lighted booths marked the one-time trade route where wine was transported as well. The light provided guidance, as Egri Csillag does among wines.

Gastronomy

Trout undoubtedly feel at home in the crystal-clear waters fed by the mountain streams near Szilvásvárad and Lillafüred. You can try the golden brown fish straight from the local smokehouse or ask for a takeaway as well, making it the perfect gastro gift.
