Day 1

Sárospatak Castle

The best known of the Rákóczi family estates, it is the most popular sight in Sárospatak. One of the most beautiful works of late Renaissance architecture in Hungary, and home to the relics of the famous family. You must have seen it on the 500 HUF banknote several times, so why not visit it in person?

Zemplén Adventure Park

The first attraction at the Zemplén Adventure Park in Sátoraljaújhely that every visitor tries is the summer bobsled. But once you enter the park, you should also try all the others. Test yourself on a zipline, a chairlift and even a climbing wall.

Day 2

Sóstó Zoo

This has become the most popular zoo in Hungary in a very short time and there is always something happening here. It is home to ring-tailed lemurs and white tigers, both species on the verge of extinction, in an environment that is very similar to their natural habitat. You’ll feel more as though you are in a rainforest, in the desert or on the savannahs than in a zoo.

Aquarius Experience Spa

It is part of Sóstófürdő and is located in the green suburbs of Nyíregyháza. The spa complex is open all year around, and has many different features and services. Both the spa and its surroundings are very pleasant.

During your visit

Wine

Furmint is the main grape variety grown in Tokaj-Hegyalja. It is also a characteristic white wine made from this grape variety, and is the other best-known Hungarian wine. Just like Tokaji wine, the Furmint also has its own typical and easily recognisable bottle.

Gastronomy

Apart from natural wonders and excellent hiking trails, the Zemplén Hills are definitely a rich source of two other things: mushrooms and game. Pair these two in the kitchen and you’ll get Roast vension with porcini. The flavour of the porcini is incomparable, and even emphasises the characteristic taste of roast venison.
