Visiting UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest? You’re in for much more than just world-class football. Hungary’s vibrant capital offers a rich blend of history, culture, and striking architecture, all easily explored in just a few days. Here’s a carefully curated 3-day itinerary to help you experience the very best of the city and make your trip truly unforgettable.

DAY 1 – Explore the Buda Side

Start your Budapest journey on the historic Buda side, where cobbled streets and panoramic views set the tone. Begin with a stroll across the iconic Chain Bridge, connecting Buda and Pest with stunning views of the Danube. From there, take the charming funicular up the hill for a memorable ride to the castle district.

At the top, visit Matthias Church, known for its colourful tiled roof and rich history, then wander over to the Fisherman’s Bastion, where fairytale-like terraces offer some of the best photo spots in the city.

Continue to Buda Castle, a UNESCO-listed complex filled with history and impressive architecture. Explore its courtyards, museums, and panoramic viewpoints that offer stunning views over the Danube and the city. Just below, explore the Castle Garden Bazaar, a beautifully restored cultural space perfect for a relaxed walk, especially in summer, when blooming rose pergolas and lush gardens make the surroundings even more picturesque.

End your day with a climb up Gellért Hill to catch the sunset. The view over Budapest is truly unforgettable and well worth the effort, and if you feel like going a bit further, you can continue up to the recently renewed Citadella for an even more spectacular panorama.

DAY 2 – Explore the Pest Side

It’s time to head across the river to the lively Pest side, home to grand boulevards, elegant architecture, and some of the city’s most iconic cultural landmarks. Start your morning at the magnificent Hungarian Parliament, one of Europe’s most iconic buildings. Just a short walk away, pause at the moving memorial, Shoes on the Danube Bank, a powerful tribute to history.

Continue to St Stephen’s Basilica, where you can admire the interior or climb to the dome for sweeping city views. Then head to the Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest in Europe, offering deep insight into Budapest’s Jewish heritage.

Take a leisurely walk along elegant Andrássy Avenue, lined with shops and historic buildings, leading you to the stunning Hungarian State Opera House. Wrap up the day at Heroes’ Square, a grand monument celebrating Hungary’s national history — an ideal place to soak in the city’s scale and significance.

DAY 3 – Relax and Enjoy

After two days of exploring, take your time to slow down, unwind, and let yourself settle into a calmer rhythm.
Start your day at the famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, one of Europe’s largest spa complexes, or opt for the more intimate and historic Rudas Thermal Bath. Soaking in the warm mineral waters is a must-do Budapest experience.

Next, enjoy a picnic in City Park, a green oasis perfect for relaxing between activities. Head to theGreat Market Hall to sample authentic Hungarian flavours from local street food to traditional delicacies.

In the afternoon, step into one of Budapest’s historic cafés such as New York Café, Gerbeaud, Művész, or Centrál. These elegant spots offer not just lovely coffee and cake, but a glimpse into the city’s cultural past.

For your final evening, treat yourself to a dinner cruise on the Danube, where you can enjoy Hungarian cuisine while admiring the illuminated skyline, part of the Budapest Danube Panorama. End your trip with cocktails at a rooftop bar, taking in the vibrant atmosphere of the city one last time.

Enjoy every moment Budapest has to offer, from grand landmarks to quiet riverside views and vibrant nights out. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories, a deeper sense of the city’s character, and a reason to return.
