Relaxed family outing in the Debrecen City Park

Debrececen City ParkDebrecen and surroundings

Did you come to the city with children? Then head for the City Park. Just a ten-minute walk from the city centre is one of Debrecen’s most popular locations, with numerous activities on offer under the 100-year-old trees for young and old alike.

The Five Acre Wood playground will sweep all children off their feet, while their parents can pass the time playing pétanque or chess with giant chess pieces. If the weather is good, it’s worth visiting the City Park Water Tower where, in addition to a rock-climbing wall and a wine terrace, evening music concerts provide entertainment, while sunbeds placed at nearby Békás Pond are perfect for carefree sunbathing. In the evening, it’s worth staying in the area for the memorable production of the ‘Mist Theatre’

Recreation in the Culture Park

City Park holds plenty of entertainment opportunities: its Culture Park is a memorable experience for young children, and the forest railway goes around the Debrecen Zoo and Amusement Park, where kids can get to know nearly 900 animals of 170 species from five continents, in a 17-hectare protected area. If you have time left, try the interactive tools of the three-storey Agora Science Centre. In summer, it’s worth heading to the open-air theatre hidden among enormous towering pines and oaks, which hosts an array of musical and theatrical performances from early May to late September during the annual City Park Open Air Festival.

This magical world spreads over 55,000 square metres and even has talking trees, stone-age pedal boats and a Renaissance wax museum. Is the family tired by the afternoon? The Zsuzsi Forest Railway will take the weight off their feet. By the way, Zsuzsi is the oldest small gauge railway in Hungary and it still operating today.
