Boldogkő Castle is one of the most picturesque castles in Zemplén, and stands on top of Bodókő hill, surrounded by vertical cliffs.

 

The medieval Füzér Castle is one of the seven wonders of Hungary. It sits on a symmetrical peak, on a volcanic cone with steep sides.

 

Esterházy Castle in Fertőd is the largest Baroque palace in Hungary. It was where Joseph Haydn lived and worked, and Empress and Queen Maria Theresa once spent a night here.

 

Buda Castle, with its characteristic dome, stands on top of Buda Castle Hill. At one time it served as a royal residence, and today it is home to two museums and the foremost library in the country.

 

Vajdahunyad Castle was built on the manmade island in City Park Lake that surrounds the building, which can be accessed via four bridges.

Boldogkő Castle

Boldogkő Castle stands tall on the incredibly steep, almost vertical ridge of the Zemplén Mountains. Its attractions include a military history, as well as a mint and numismatic exhibit, tin/lead soldiers and dioramas, and even humorous jousts.

Füzér Castle: The Middle Ages reloaded.

Visit the citadel in one of the most beautiful places in Hungary. In terms of surroundings, this is just as spectacular as the rightly famous Gothic Revival Neuschwanstein Castle, but was built on a volcanic cone 650 years before its Bavarian counterpart.

Buda Castle

Part of the Castle District and a medieval royal residence, Buda Castle also served as an important cultural and scientific hub. Today it houses the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest History Museum and the National Széchényi Library.

Vajdahunyad Castle

Located in one of Budapest’s largest public parks, City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle is today home to the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture. The castle was built on an island and can be accessed via one of four bridges.

The imposing Esterházy Castle

Hungary’s largest and most splendid baroque building, the Esterházy Castle in Fertőd, is located near the Austrian border. Its halls still host summer concerts and its music hall houses an exhibit evoking the castle’s musical life of yore.

 

Grassalkovich Palace - Gödöllő
