Hungary boasts a number of leisure baths, spas and thermal baths that have become famous far and wide for their thermal waters and their unique architecture. Here are just a few of these destinations, and they are even more worth a visit thanks to recent improvements. 

Nyíregyháza – Sóstógyógyfürdő

Nyíregyháza’s popular spa complex has undergone a major upgrade in recent years, with the aim of extending it into a leisure bath facility in addition to its original function as a spa. Visitors can now plunge into leisure pools as well as thermal pools, while white-water rapids and various giant slides await, but not for the faint of heart! There are saunas, a Kneipp pool and Jacuzzi spas to help you recharge your batteries.

Hajdúszoboszló

Hungarospa, which is Europe’s largest spa complex and is soon to celebrate its 100th anniversary, attracts thousands of guests to Hajdúszoboszló every day. In addition to the usual attractions, this spa and bath complex will further enhance its delights this year with the addition of children’s pools and outdoor leisure pools. The walkway between the Aqua-Palace and the thermal spa, which tempts visitors to take a pleasant stroll, is also a new feature.

Debrecen – Aquaticum Spa

The Mediterranean-style setting of Aquaticum spa and leisure baths in Debrecen creates a special atmosphere, which, together with the various wellness and fun elements, is ideal for both relaxation and active recreation. Thanks to major upgrades, visitors will be able to try out a host of new features, including aquatic fun in the wave pool and on the slides. They will also be able to pamper themselves in the Turkish bath and hydro-massage pools. These are guaranteed to make your stay unforgettable.

Berettyóújfalu

The development of the Berettyóújfalu spa complex has been aimed at upgrading the thermal spa and wellness section. A new 106 square metre thermal pool and a Jacuzzi have been added to this popular bathing resort. In addition, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, magnetotherapy and therapeutic gymnastics services have been launched as part of the new musculoskeletal rehabilitation section. The sauna section has been extended, and the spa’s reputation enhanced, with a salt room, as well as infrared, steam and Finnish saunas. 

Lenti Thermal Spa

After adding a hotel and an indoor leisure pool in 2016, the popular Lenti Thermal Spa, located close to the Slovenian border, has undergone further improvements. In addition to the renovation of the old indoor baths, the range of therapeutic services has been expanded as well. Oxygen therapy, a carbon dioxide room, a mud bath and a cryosauna are now available in the spa building that boasts a unique interior design. 

Esztergom – Aquasziget Leisure Spa

Located on Prímás Island in the heart of Esztergom, Aquasziget Leisure Spa is the perfect destination if you’re seeking a little relaxation[BL1]  after visiting the city’s cultural attractions. If you prefer to stay active, as well as seeing the Esztergom Basilica and taking a hike around the region’s natural attractions, you should also visit Aquasziget Leisure Spa, which opened in 2005. This spa has been modernised to ensure that locals and tourists alike can continue to enjoy quality relaxation for many years to come.

Bükfürdő

The upgrade of Bükfürdő Thermal & Spa, a veritable bathers’ paradise, has been extended to include not only the spa complex but its immediate surroundings as well. This long-established spa town continues to enhance its green spaces, which include playgrounds, a modern campsite and dog-friendly facilities. The unique Funcity entertainment centre, which will keep the little ones entertained with modern games and a cinema, might be of particular interest to families.
