Day 1

Budapest’s most popular bathing complex: the Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Hungary is rich in healing waters: 80% of its territory has some kind of underground thermal water. Budapest is often regarded as the spa capital of Europe, and the city’s diverse range of spas ensures there’s something for everyone, whether it’s stepping back in time at an authentic Turkish bath, having fun in some whirlpools, or relaxing and indulging in a soothing massage.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath, located in the City Park, is one of Europe’s largest spa complexes, and is famous for its outdoor pools and striking Neo- Baroque architecture. This winter, Széchenyi Thermal Bath will continue its tradition of “Sparty” events which are a fusion of electronic music and thermal relaxation, offering a unique and vibrant experience.

City Park

City Park or (Városliget) may not be familiar at first, but when you know that this is the part of town where you can find the Széchenyi bath, Heroes’ Square or the spectacular skating rink, you’ll know what an important part the “Liget”, as its abbreviated, plays in Budapest’s circulation. It was one of the world’s first public parks and serves as a living core that gives locals a chance to feel close to nature even when they are in the heart of the city, not to mention the numerous fun outings that will satisfy all age groups.

Museum of Fine Arts

What the Prado is in Madrid, the Louvre in Paris, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the National Gallery in London, the Museum of Fine Arts is in Budapest. Masterpieces from antiquity to contemporary art.

Its building neighbors Budapest’s largest park, the zoo and Széchenyi Thermal Bath, and borders Heroes’ Square which is a world heritage site. Day 2

Hungarian State Opera

The Hungarian State Opera House is an architectural masterpiece located on the grand Andrássy Avenue, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built in neo-Renaissance style with intricate frescoes, marble columns, and a grand staircase, the Opera House’s building exudes elegance and sophistication. In this winter season (from December 2024 until March 2025), the Hungarian State Opera is offering a rich array of performances.

Light art programs

Budapest offers an array of activities that blend tradition, culture, and seasonal magic, making it an ideal winter destination for all ages. The Light Art Museum and Garden of Lights offer immersive art experiences, with interactive light installations that bring a modern twist to Budapest’s artistic landscape. Meanwhile, Lumina Park invites guests into a whimsical world of light displays and glowing sculptures, perfect for a lovely evening stroll.

The Nyugati Lounge at Budapest’s iconic Nyugati Railway Station offers a colourful night-time experience with DJs and stunning light projections every Friday and Saturday after 10 PM. This unique initiative transforms the space into a lively, atmospheric venue, blending modern entertainment with uninterrupted service for an unforgettable evening.

Street food

Budapest’s street food scene offers a delicious dive into the country’s rich culinary heritage, with flavours that are both comforting and bold. Strolling through the city, you’ll find classics like lángos - a crispy, doughy delight topped with sour cream and cheese - alongside warm, sweet chimney cakes turning over open flames.

Day 3

City Park Ice Rink

The most atmospheric one in Budapest is undoubtedly the ice rink in City Park (14th district, Olof Palme sétány 5.), which has been operating since 1870. This year it opened on 20 November. The Boat Lake next to Heroes’ Square turns into mirror ice in winter. It has long been a popular spot for young lovers, but it is also a meeting place for friends and families, where you can spend a few happy hours with a hot tea in your hand.

Historic Coffee Houses

Budapest’s coffee houses offer an upscale experience that blends rich flavours with timeless elegance, making them unmissable during the winter-festive season. Stepping into these establishments feels like connecting with a piece of living history, where spectacular architecture and intricate decor embody a culture that thrives in the present. As of 2024, the city boasts nine Michelin-starred restaurants, including one distinguished with two stars, underscoring Budapest’s status as a premier destination for fine dining enthusiasts.
